Mardi Gras, Schmardi Gras.

God, the news is pathetic.  CNN was on in the gym this morning and the breaking story was the ongoing Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  Never mind that Iraq is burning, and Darfur is in chaos --  the big news is this forced, labored merriment going on in a devastated city.

The banner read New Orleans is Back.  Sure it is;  if you consider drunken slobs throwing beads at half naked ladies, back.  CNN kept showing the pictures from right after Katrina and comparing them with the Tuesday morning shots of Bourbon street.  To be honest I couldn't tell the difference, what with all the garbage and puke.

But yet, from the gleeful look on the anchorwoman's face as she interviewed visiting obese, no-neck, broncos from Brooklyn, this was a joyous occasion, and we, as faithful corporate Americans should get in line and just enjoy this feel-good moment.

Born in a small coal mining town, I combine the ability to play I Got Rhythm in all 11 and a half keys with my love of washing machines to form a perspective so skewed that my wife insists on seperate seatings at dinner.
